Stories from the work

Fourteen foster children, one open door

Across the street from the church sits a foster home. Over a single term, more than fourteen foster children came through the church's doors and were given the Gospel — children who had never once heard that God made them and loves them. Many carried that seed with them when they moved on to new homes across Uruguay.

The Good Shepherd mural on the front of the church building in downtown Durazno

The mural that preaches on the sidewalk

On the front of the building, a mural of the Good Shepherd carries the words of Jesus: "Come unto me… and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). People stop to take selfies in front of it. Some step inside to ask about it. In a nation searching for rest, the building itself has become a witness on a downtown street.

Church family and friends sharing an asado meal under the grapevines

Mate, asado, and the long road to reach men

Uruguayan men are nearly impossible to reach through programs — but nearly everyone will come to an asado. Around the grill and over shared mate, walls come down and conversations turn to eternal things. It is slow work, but it is how disciples are made in Uruguay.

The vision · Durazno, Uruguay

A church that plants churches.

The goal has never been one congregation. The Harmons pray to raise up the next generation of national leadership, to see a genuine Christian community and culture take root in Durazno, and to watch this church reproduce other vibrant churches throughout Uruguay's interior.
